Final-ish on the Weekend

October 15th, 2007 · No Comments

After some congratulations all around, the founding team has slowly left the site of Startup Weekend West Lafayette. The success of the team deserves a long summary post, but we still need to get Andrew to Harry’s for a toast to the success of this grand experiment, and I need some time to let all the crazy activity settle into some clear perspective on the weekend.

In the mean time, test out our creation at www.scrolltalk.com and leave us some feedback.

So Fresh

October 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment

The end of the weekend is so close now. A dedicated server is coming online and any minute now everything maybe ready for a big announcement. The dev’s are literally chanting “Almost there, almost there, almost there”

You know the group has created something cool, when the cap table talk at the end of the weekend draws everyones undivided attention.  Even the fresh cookies (delivered to your door here at Purdue) did not garner as much attention.

A little fun, a big launch

October 14th, 2007 · No Comments

A goal check meeting resulted in a lot of issues being cleared up. Server load seems to be way down, and more robust hosting options are currently being load tested. Great problems to have for a company that is now exactly 48 hours old.

To celebrate the companies two day birthday, some fun photographs and video of the group was taken.  Watch for a Vimeo like release next week.

PR is ramping up nicely, and the final weekend plans are underway.

Delta is Down, Roger that HQ, Delta is Down

October 14th, 2007 · No Comments

At o-h thirteen hundred Startup Weekend West Lafayette launched the Delta release of scrolltalk. A hour of half of testing by 80+ users resulted in some great feedback, and some serious load on our tiny little dev space.

As the usability team works through the servers logs, the development team is rapidly responding to users feedback in preparation for the Earhart release later this evening.

* Amelia Earhart was a faculty member of the Purdue faculty, the birthplace of scrolltalk and the Interest Messaging movement.

Over and out.

Good Crash

October 14th, 2007 · No Comments

A finaly the “server crash” milestone has been accomplished!

Having pulled together a team of motivated strangers, put in 18 hour days back, and founded a company in one fast paced weekend - its almost a nice sign to see the users flood in and the server crash under the load.

Memory problems being fixed as the post goes up, stay tuned.

A private Delta has launched, and users are currently tearing it apart as the team watches - well the scrolltalk of course.

Dinner and Delta a very good combination.

Official Organization

October 14th, 2007 · No Comments

Yesterday, two attorneys from Ice Miller (the sponsor of West Lafayette Startup Weekend) volunteered a few hours of their Saturday to come in and discuss the legal questions the co-founders of scrolltalk had about the new venture.

The discussion ranged from what type of legal entity to create, to the risks of storing user information.  Ice Miller did a great job of digging into the business, that was at the time only 18 hours old, and by the end of the day everyone was satisfied the counselors had a good understanding of the risks and appropriate protections.

Now, after some overnight research on the formation agreement by Ice Miller, West Lafayette Startup Weekend LLC starts its life as an official organization.

Polish and Perfect

October 14th, 2007 · No Comments

Adwords accounts are being setup, ticket lists are being worked down and small changes are being made everywhere . If you signed up for the Beta List for scrolltalk expect some big announcements around 1pm EST.

It’s hard to believe we have come this far in only three days, but even more unbelievable, is the calm throughout the room. A steady pace of work has replaced tension and anxiety - it has finally settled into the co-founders minds that it is real.
